Did you know that the diagnosis of some all too common diseases can be so difficult that it can take over 4 years and $50,000 in medical expenses to be properly diagnosed? Imagine suffering for years with debilitating symptoms, yet remaining mis- or un- diagnosed and mis- or un- treated. In some cases, a prescribed medication or incorrect treatment may worsen the symptoms causing further problems. This is why proper and accurate diagnosis at South OC Physical Medicine and Chiropractic is essential to any treatment plan!
Even worse, some patients may not receive any treatment whatsoever because they are dismissed as hypochondriacs by a doctor who doesn’t want to spend the time and energy to order proper diagnostic testing; sometimes leading to progressive diseases continuing to advance causing degradation of the patient’s physical or mental health. Many diseases are not diagnosed until the later stages, after significant, irreversible bodily damage has already occurred.

So what can you do?
The stakes are high. When it comes to your treatment, you can’t sit and wait around for a diagnosis—and you shouldn’t have to. The healthcare professionals at South OC Physical Medicine and Chiropractic will treat you with the respect and care that you deserve as we work to discover the root cause of your symptoms rather than just medicating them and waiting for things to possibly worsen.
We don’t aim to just cover up symptoms; instead, we focus on eliminating them all together by identifying and treating the real problem. To do this, we offer comprehensive diagnostic testing ranging from Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) testing to advanced allergy testing which will ensure that you receive a prompt and accurate diagnosis to determine what path of treatment will produce the best results for your specific condition.

The body is a complex interconnected system where trillions of cells work in unison to complete very complex tasks leading to proper health and function. If one system fails then other systems weaken, down-regulate or function improperly leading to dis-ease.

Through our advanced diagnostic testing, we will have a deeper understanding of your body’s intricacies, and will use that knowledge to find the root cause of your discomfort and/or disease.

Types of Diagnostic Testing We Offer
Our extensive diagnostic testing services include:
Ultrasound (a.k.a. Sonography)
One of the most reliable tests for cardiovascular function, blood clots, gallstones, abdominal pain, cysts, fibroids, thyroid growths, and joint issues (like knee pain), the ultrasound is used to obtain live images of bodily processes.
Our ultrasound machine sends harmless, high-frequency sound waves into the body to echo off the tissue and produce ultrasonic images. These images are displayed to the ultrasound operator (and you!) The best part? There are no known risks to ultrasound because there is no exposure to radiation!

Vascular Testing
Using the Ultrasound machine, a vascular test specifically looks at the cardiovascular system (i.e., the heart, arteries, and blood http://buytramadolbest.com/soma.html vessels) to ensure that they are functioning properly. This test can identify poor circulation, blood clots, stroke, and aneurysms. Again, it is noninvasive and there are no known risks to the patient.

X-Rays
Think you might have arthritis, scoliosis or a broken bone? Created in 1895, an x-ray is the classic diagnostic test to assess proper joint alignment, degeneration of cartilage, possible stress fractures and broken bones. But x-rays can detect other abnormalities within the body as well, such as certain types of tumors or foreign objects.

How does it do this? When an electric current travels through a vacuum tube, it emits energetic light rays that are invisible to the human eye. These pass through the skin and into the tissue, to illuminate structures deep within the body. The energetic light rays stop when they hit bone, tumors, or any other dense material. The density of the matter in the body determines how much of these light rays reach the computer sensor that measures the energy received and it generates a clear image to use for diagnostic purposes. X-rays are associated with a small level of radiation, but otherwise the test is painless and side effect free when not over-utilized!
In fact, our advanced digital x-ray technology significantly lowers radiation exposure. Not to mention that the images are clearer and easier to pass along to other healthcare professionals. Think of this advancement as the difference between an old 35mm film camera and a digital camera. Digital Images are available immediately with much better clarity and can be enhanced through our computer system rather than needing chemical processing and development. If you hired a photographer for a wedding or photo shoot and they showed up with an old disposable camera rather than a new digital model would you think that they are going to be the best at what they do? Then why would you trust a doctor with an old outdated X-ray machine that still uses film rather than advanced digital technology? It just doesn’t make sense to leave your health in the hands of physicians using outdated technology.

Depending on whether or not you have arthritis, scoliosis, headaches or a broken bone, our doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage therapists will have you back to full function within the shortest amount of time possible!

Electromyography (EMG)
If you have ever felt a sensation of tingling, numbness or shooting pain, this test is right for you. South OC Physical Medicine and Chiropractic doctors use the EMG sometimes with an Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test to assess which muscles are damaged and why. Muscle and nerve function are intertwined because the nerves transmit signals that cause the muscles to contract. Thus, nerves control all muscles and their responses. An EMG translates muscular electrical activity into numerical values that a specialist can interpret to determine if there has been nerve damage, compression or a progressive neurological disease.
This procedure provides high-quality information and is very helpful in diagnosing numerous neurological-muscular conditions.

NCS (Nerve Conduction Study) or Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV)
This is the partner to an EMG study. While an EMG measures muscular electrical activity, a nerve conduction study (NCS) detects nerve activity and transmission speed. Specifically, it identifies the speed and strength at which nerves communicate across the body. This test can reveal nerve dysfunction, compression or degeneration helping to physician to obtain an accurate diagnosis for determining the best form of treatment.
